Grays Ferry Crescent Remediation
The City of Philadelphia acquired riverfront land on the east side of the Schuylkill from 34th Street to Wharton Street behind the former DuPont Marshall Labs, a Waste Management facility, and a FedEx facility. The City asked SRDC to remediate this area to meet DEP standards before creating an extension of the Schuylkill Banks trail and greenway along this corridor.
SRDC undertook remediation of the Grays Ferry Crescent (then referred to as the DuPont Crescent) in August through October 2008. Remediation work included removing hazardous soil and paving, general clearing and grubbing, and laying down new fill soil, topsoil and grass seed to prevent erosion.
$400,000 in funding for this project was provided by PA DEP and EPA with SRDC providing $50,000 in match funding. The remediation design work was performed by Pennoni Associates and the remediation construction by React Environmental Professional Services Group.
