Vandalism on the rise
Schuylkill Banks has been the vicitm of a recent onslaught of vandalism over the past few months. An especially bad graffiti bombing of the composting restroom by Walnut Street in early December put the restroom out of commission for several days as the SRDC maintenance team worked to remove all traces of the tags from this valuable amenity. A similar set of tags marred granite under the Chestnut Street Bridge, requiring help from the City's anti-graffiti team.
SRDC is committed to removing most graffiti within 24 hours and working with the City to remove more difficult tags as quickly as possible. Our thanks goes out to the City's Managing Director's Office for helping to remove many tags over the years, and especially for their recent help with the Chestnut Street tags.
This rise in vandalism makes it harder for SRDC and the City to maintain the pristine greenway that thousands of Philadelphians have come to know and love. Please help us to protect the trail by keeping an eye out while you're on the Banks and reporting suspicious behavior to the Philadelphia Police (911) or Fairmount Park Rangers (215-685-0144). If in doubt, please call it in and let the police investigate.
