The 13th annual Philly Fun Fishing Fest, held on Schuylkill Banks on Saturday, September 9, was a day of family fun, thanks to the Philadelphia Water Department, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, PA Fish and Boat Commission, over 140 participants and many wonderful volunteers!

Seasoned anglers and first-timers alike gathered along the sunny riverbank to compete for prizes, including Largest Fish, Smallest Fish and Most Fish Caught between 7 and 11am. 131 fish were caught (and released), including a 23-inch channel catfish. One participant even managed to catch a turtle!

The prizes, including deluxe tackle boxes and rods from Flambeau and Dick's Sporting Goods, were awarded to anglers of all ages and skill levels. Once a "dead" river, the Schuylkill now boasts more than 50 species of fish, waterfowl and other happy urban critters. We always enjoy seeing Philadelphians appreciate all the Schuylkill has to offer!
